About Johann

Movement for Health Personal Training kicked off in April 2023 when the opportunity presented for Johann to fulfil his career goal of starting his own training business. From 8 sessions a week to 30 plus in just over a year, and with over 50 satisfied clients, Movement for Health Personal Training has been growing exponentially! Johann works with a range of clients with a variety of goals, including multiple NDIS supported clients working towards long term health and lifestyle goals, short and long-term injury rehabilitation, ongoing gym programming for athletic performance and personal training for general health and fitness. Johann’s ability to work with such a varied degree of clients comes from his sport and exercise science background, paired with a wealth of experience in the sport, health and fitness fields.


Johann started personal training in 2013 while studying sport and exercise science at UTS. Personal training and running a popular group fitness timetable at the university gym kept him busy once he completed his Certificate III and IV in Fitness, before finalising his Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science in 2014. In 2014 Johann began working with one of Sydney’s premier personal training companies, running outdoor group classes, private personal training sessions and even writing for several publications, including Women’s Health. In 2015 he undertook an additional year of study and graduated with Honours First Class for his thesis based on Australian Rules Football. This led Johann into his time working with the Sydney Swans AFL team as a Sport Scientist during the 2016, ’17 and ’18 seasons.

Concurrent to working in professional sport and personal training, Johann started working with the Sydney Academy of Sport in the Sports Science department in a hands-on physiology lab. The opportunity presented itself here to take on the role of presenter and educator, working with various athlete camps as well as social equity pursuits such as Street Soccer, a program which provided a safe space for Sydney’s homeless population come together and enjoy a meal while learning about healthy eating. Johann’s strength and conditioning background led to him eventually switching to Netball, working with NSW Swifts as their Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach and pioneering their junior development program as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for their Academy. During this time Johann played a pivotal role in developing strength and conditioning guidelines for Netball NSW’s junior development program, and was a part of the performance team that assisted in winning the 2019 SSN Premiership.


2020 saw the opportunity to move North, a lifestyle change he and his wife Kitty had wanted for several years. A new environment allowed Johann to rekindle his love for Personal Training. In 2020 Johann took on a role as a Senior Gym Attendant at the Southern Cross University Gym, running boxing, HIIT and Bootcamp classes as well as using his expertise to craft gym programs for members. In 2023 he moved his business to become more mobile and has been based out of the Stepz gym in Lismore. Johann’s journey through the health and fitness world has seen him work with a wide range of clients, and his easy-going nature and wealth of experience make him the perfect trainer for you. Outside of work, Johann is a keen surfer and mountain bike rider and loves getting out on his road or dirt bike on the weekend!
